Drought is a way of life for the people of Jaisalmer district. However there exist sharp differences in how the drought is perceived by the people depending upon the location, caste and economic rank of the individuals. People have evolved traditional ways to predict monsoon and drought but the techniques of prediction are rapidly diminishing. The main water sources in Jaisalmer are Amar Sagar Lake, Gadisar Lake and Indira Gandhi Canal.
