Abstract
Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni's novel The Palace of Illusions
reimagines the Indian epic Mahabharata from the perspective of Draupadi, a
central yet traditionally marginalized female character. This paper explores
the feminist perspective in the novel, focusing on how Divakaruni reconstructs
Draupadi’s narrative to highlight themes of female autonomy, identity, and
resistance against patriarchal structures. By examining key elements such as
narrative voice, characterization, and thematic concerns, this study reveals
how The Palace of Illusions serves as a significant work in contemporary
feminist literature, offering a critical commentary on the historical and
cultural subjugation of women.
