Abstract
Over the last few decades, there has been a growing awareness of the need to empower women and achieve gender equality through measures to achieve social, economic, and political equity, as well as greater access to fundamental human rights improvements in basic health and education. Even in the most advanced countries, gender equality and women's status are low. The purpose of this paper is to investigate various aspects of empowerment, such as economic, social, and political empowerment, among the Khasi tribe of Meghalaya. The research was carried out in Meghalaya, specifically in the Khasi community. The study employs a few parameters, including control over resources, particularly land, inheritance of property, freedom of movement, and political awareness. Economic independence, education, freedom of movement and equal participation in political processes are the primary determinants of empowerment. These factors combinedly enable women to get involved in decision making processes both at the household and village levels so that equal benefits are bestowed upon both the sexes.
