The Chandella dynasty rose to power during the early 10^th century C.E. and survived as a powerful independent royal family until the close of the 13^th century C.E. Before coming to the power, they were peculators under the imperial Pratiharas. The decline of Imperial Pratiharas gave a golden opportunity to Harsha and Yashovarman to establish their sovereignty over the central India by capturing the important forts of Kalanjar and Chitrakuta. The period of transition and political readjustment which had always intervened between the full of one imperial power and the raise of another in medieval India had already begun. This paper portrays the developments in the different sphere of life under the Chandella Kingdom.
